To start off the first month of 2021, The Grand Foundation is thrilled to feature Lake County United (LCU).
Now more than ever, the internet is a basic necessity in American homes: students use it to access lectures and coursework, patients use it to contact their physicians and/or therapists, and families use it to contact their loved ones. The Grand Foundation is honored to be a part of a pilot program initiated by LCU. This project aims at bridging the internet divide that addresses the inequities of internet access to certain communities in Waukegan.
With investments from The Grand Foundation and Grainger Foundation the LCU was able to successfully install 5 internet towers in Waukegan so residents can have access to Free WiFi.
This free WiFi allows children to attend virtual e-learning and people to have access to telehealth services and stay in touch with loved ones, especially during the pandemic. The goal is for this model to be sustainable so members of the community can have necessary access to the internet.
