One look and it’s easy to see how professional designer Erika Powell of Urban Grace drew inspiration for this traditional-style kitchen situated along the marine landscape of Florida’s eastern estuaries. In a showcase of natural materials, including a quartz countertop with a matching backsplash and stone brick walls, Powell fused the essence of the outdoors with a fresh take on traditionalism through a soft theme of sage cabinetry with planked details. The challenge at hand was to embrace the open feel of the outdoors in a space that feels social and welcoming, all which required strategic appliance management from Powell.

In the end, the designer and her team proved to be successful, ultimately bringing home the third-place award at the 2017-18 Kitchen Design Contest held by appliance brands Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove. In this project spotlight, we’re taking a closer look at how the winning combination all comes together.

Set the Mood with Sub-Zero Refrigeration

When the client of this kitchen design reached out to Powell, they made sure the designer got the memo that this space was all about entertaining. With that in mind, Powell seized the opportunity to add purpose to the kitchen wall by installing two Sub-Zero wine storage units. The duo is the perfect conversation-starter and an excellent way to showcase prized vinos with a generous 86-bottle capacity and two temperature zones. Advanced temperature technology stores bottles to a degree of setpoint, and with Sub-Zero magnetic seal technology, cold air stays put, prolonging the subtle flavors of each selection in your collection.

Below, refrigerator drawers provide convenient storage for party favorites and hors d’oeuvres ready to present during the next celebration, while a built-in 15-inch ice maker is an essential for get-togethers.

Sub-Zero column refrigerator and freezer in Bayfront Hideaway kitchen design

There’s no telling for sure, but we like to believe the Bayfront Hideaway location played a role in the decision to tuck this Sub-Zero column freezer and refrigerator duo discreetly in an adjacent hallway. By doing so, this set of built-in refrigeration allows other plays to take the stage and further complement the kitchen’s open layout.

Yet with Wi-Fi connectivity, these high-end kitchen appliances are never too far, offering the ability to monitor and control each via a personal smart device — not that Sub-Zero appliances need much monitoring. Both the freezer and refrigerator column feature intelligent microprocessors that maintain the interior of each appliance to precise temperatures. Once shut, magnetic doors seal in cold air, keeping conditions inside to your desired settings. As an added bonus, an internal water dispenser and air purification that filters ethylene, mold, and bacteria come included in the column refrigerator.

With a combined 32.6 cubic feet of storage capacity complete with adjustable shelves, drawers, and bins, this set of panel-ready refrigeration holds a surprising amount of goods behind its beautifully disguised doors.

Wolf Appliances Turn a Design Pro

A hearty, traditional kitchen design isn’t complete without a professional range to make a statement. In this case, a Wolf 48-inch dual-fuel range serves as a handsome focal point and versatile cooking setup ideal for parties and dinner nights alike. Six dual-stacked burners provide the flexibility to go from low, 300-BTU simmers up to a blazing 20,000 BTUs of output to tackle everything from fondues to steaks, plus an added infrared griddle for even more cooking versatility. Below, two ovens with a total of 7 cubic feet of capacity and convection cooking are the secret to achieving picture-perfect results with professional quality.

With all gas ranges, a hood is a must, but that doesn’t have to mean it lacks personality. Customized in a patina of warm metallic, the Wolf hood liner creates a visual contrast to the stainless steel of the range while also picking up on the hardware used throughout the kitchen. Hidden controls add to the seamless look, and with a powerful blower and adjustable fan settings, the premium ventilation from this appliance keeps odors, smoke, and air contamination just as hidden. Also featured in this kitchen are a Wolf built-in microwave oven that offers gourmet cooking presets along with 1.6 cubic feet of capacity, plus a Wolf warming drawer ideal for keeping party platters warm for every occasion.
