Kitchen Inspirations: 2022 Person of The Year : Jeanne Chung - Pasadena Showcase House ft. Monogram Appliances

by Olly Mason

When Pasadena Showcase House (the nation’s oldest show house) asks you to be a part of 2022’s design collaboration, it is time to pull out all stops. Luckily for seasoned interior designer Jeanne K. Chung, a background in fashion and interior design proved to be just what the house needed when it came to bringing an outdated butcher pantry and kitchen into the modern era.

In order to preserve the site’s signature English Tudor architecture, Chung complements this Oaklawn Manor remodel with Monogram appliances. The duo strikes a balance between yesteryear’s charm and the glory of modern appliances that are made with careful craftsmanship. In the end, the 2022 Pasadena Showcase House exhibits an expert rendition of old and new.

See how Chung uses Monogram to fulfill the vision in this kitchen inspiration spotlight.

About the 2022 Pasadena Showcase House Kitchen Project

Back when this Oaklawn Manor English Tudor was in its original state, its butler’s pantry was used for behind-the-scenes food preparation and cleanup. Chung’s mission for the 2022 Pasadena Showcase House project was clear: Honor the old charm while updating its function for its modern homeowners.

For vintage character, a combination of marble checkerboard tiles from Exquisite Surfaces and Grothouse Lumbar custom stained butcher block countertops were chosen for high-end vintage flair. To bring the space out of 1905 and into the present, the Cozy Stylish Chic designer counted on Monogram appliances.

We start our tour with the range.

Chung Uses a Monogram Range for Style and Performance

Amidst the motley setup of this kitchen space sits a Monogram dual fuel range ready to create dinner menus as exciting as Chung’s design. This Monogram 48” dual fuel range features four burners coupled with built-in grill and griddle surfaces to prepare foods in various methods.

While Chung describes the space as having “an understated elegance, a restrained color palette, and a focus on function,” the same can be said about this pro-style range. Subtle accents like brass knobs and solid brass burners add to the layering of the pantry, while an LCD control panel and Wi-Fi compatibility bring the new-age edge. Like all good design, the range focuses on function with up to 23,000 BTUs of output, an Air Fry mode, and precision oven modes.

A Monogram Hearth Oven Adds Unexpected Luxury

Hidden on the left-side wall of the seating area behind this kitchen’s island is a hidden gem — a Monogram 30” electric hearth oven. The appliance is built seamlessly into the cabinetry and features a custom pull-out shelf from Grothouse Lumbar.

From Neapolitan-style pizzas to blitzing up quick appetizers, the hearth oven is a smart addition that gives the users of this space even more functionality. Chung goes on to say,

“I love that I can make salmon in it in about 7 minutes (I like it medium rare), and it doesn’t smell up the room.  There is an air knife that keeps the odors and heat within the unit and even though the dome gets up to 1350 degrees, the outside is still cool to the touch. It’s brilliant!”

Monogram Refrigeration Completes the Space

Take a small detour next to the Monogram hearth oven to discover one of the Chung’s favorite additions of this kitchen, a Monogram Wine Sommelier. Truly the mark of a gourmet kitchen, Chung highlights her favorite features from this appliance are “dual temperature zones for wine, a freezer drawer for ice, and then a convertible drawer at the bottom.”

With the capacity to store up to 106 wine bottles, this wine column from Monogram is a collector’s delight. Complete with a glass door and seven wooden shelves, it’s also the perfect place to proudly showcase rare vintages for guests to see.

The wine station is part of a full series of Monogram refrigeration, including a Monogram column refrigerator and freezer units.

Chung Adds Function with a Monogram Speed Oven

On the other side of the kitchen, more of Chung’s magic shines inside the butler’s pantry. A mix of old-world charm from custom shelves, tiles, and countertops merges with the contemporary touch of hearth oven and Monogram speed oven, beverage center, and a GE nugget ice maker.

The setup creates a practical workflow that simplifies food prep outside of the main kitchen area. The Monogram Advantium oven features 5 cooking methods and all while fitting into a compact 30” cutout. Whether it’s toasting up bruschetta, proofing pizza dough, microwaving quick meals, convection baking, or using precision cooking, this speed oven is a nimble tool that will inspire any aspiring home chef.

The homeowners of this home will be ready to whip up appetizers and prepare rounds of cocktails with nugget ice by the pounds. It’s the perfect surprise for guests who are seated behind the kitchen’s ample island fitted with barstools.
