What Small Business Saturday Means at Grand Appliance

by Waverly Wilde

Right after Thanksgiving every year, there are a three back-to-back events that commence the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Black Friday kicks it off at midnight the day after Thanksgiving where people formerly waited in line for incredible sales and Cyber Monday is similarly as busy but on a virtual level since everything is done over internet. While you’ve probably heard of those days, there is a lesser known shopping holiday supporting local businesses smack dab in the middle of the two called Small Business Saturday.

In 2010, American Express made Small Business Saturday in response to the hustle and bustle that Black Friday gives big box stores and tends to take away from local businesses. This special day was meant to encourage shoppers to pay attention to the smaller, locally-owned businesses that make each and every community thrive. In fact, for every dollar spent at a small business in the United States, about 67 cents stays in the local community!

That’s just one reason why shopping locally with us at Grand Appliance and TV for all your appliance needs can make a huge difference on our economy. And while you may not consider us to be a small business with 25 stores in 6 different metro areas, we are in fact, a family owned business that’s been owned and operated by the same family since 1930! Over the years we’ve kept a lot of the characteristic you would expect in a small business including long-term employees and superb customer service.

Read on to discover why purchasing from your favorite local stores on Small Business Saturday is beneficial for you.

Local Economy Benefits Financially

As we mentioned earlier, when you shop local, a generous amount of that money goes towards the community. That’s because locally-owned businesses tend to shop at other local shops while employing people who also live in the area, continuing to circulate money throughout the town.

Better Customer Support and Expertise

Have you ever stepped foot into a big box store where you needed assistance, but either no one was around to help or they were just too busy to make their way over to you? And with Black Friday coming up, you can bet that these stores will be trying to deal with crowd control making lines longer than usual and customer service potentially at its worst. This is a pretty common occurrence with larger chain stores and it’s something local shops pride themselves on never doing.

At Grand, you can expect to avoid the hassle of large lines, be greeted when entering through our doors, and get the appropriate amount of help that you need from start to finish. Not only that, but when you shop local with us and talk with a sales associate, you are getting to speak with an expert who can answer your questions thoroughly and on the spot.

If you’re looking for a more personal experience, shopping local is the way to go.

Eco-Friendly Way to Shop

When you shop local, you’re actually reducing your environmental impact in a couple of ways:

  1. It’s easy to walk or bike to our stores! Local shops, unlike major shopping outlets or big chain stores, tend to be placed centrally in town making the walkability score much friendlier than that of something out of town. Less cars means less pollution.
  2. Shipping Transportation is a major issues that businesses tend to struggle with. Since many local shops tend to make more local purchases there are usually less transportation issues to worry about. From minimal traffic congestion to less fuel consumption, those local purchases can make a huge difference on the environment.
  3. Again, because there are more local purchases done by local businesses, there is usually much less waste as far as packaging materials go.

Less Expensive Items

One perk to shopping locally is the competitive prices. You will usually find great deals while shopping at your local store that you won’t find at the nearest big box store to you. At Grand, we always have items on sale that can save you over hundreds of dollars on your purchase. If you’re interested in exploring some of our deals, check out our catalog of deals here

With the current COVID-19 pandemic making it difficult to physically go out and shop local, supporting small businesses is more important than ever now. We understand that it’s not always as convenient as stopping at a big box store, but heading out on Small Business Saturday for all your shopping needs is a great start.

Just remember, our team at Grand is here to help with your shopping experience however you need. From simply answering a few questions to being with you every step of the way, we’ll make sure you get the attention you want and are never left hanging for a sales associate. Give us a call or stop in today to learn about our special deals going on during the biggest shopping days of the year!
